The Art of Award Winning Smiles
Temporomandibular joint is the joint where the mandible bone meets the temporal bone of our skull. The movement of our jaw is enabled by the articular disk which is in between the temporal and mandible bones. When this joint dysfunctions, there can be headache, jaw pain, ear pain or pain in the chewing muscles. Dentists and oral care providers can help examine, identify and treat TMJ problems. If you or any of your family members are facing one of the symptoms of TMJ, call our office and meet our dental team. Our office is well-equipped to diagnose and treat the problem.
TMJ disorder has many symptoms. These symptoms may show up in ears, neck, head, chewing muscles and even distract the sleep of a person. During an examination, our dentist firstly makes a note of the signs and symptoms. The diagnosis is carried forward based on the signs and symptoms. Following are some of the commonly notable signs of TMJ.
There can be several reasons for the jaw to be in wrong position. TMJ problems may occur because of a bad bite, accidental injury, improper dental treatment leading to an orthodontic problem or can be by birth. The remedy to the problem depends on the complexity of the case.
A specially designed oral appliance is most commonly recommended as a solution for TMJ problem. The appliance is fit over the lower teeth. This frees the jaw muscles and lets them relax while the jaw tends to move in the planned direction. Use of oral appliance discards the need for a surgery. The treatment is therefore non-invasive, simple and the results are pretty good.
The oral appliance helps reduce the pain and other symptoms. The aim is to firstly address the pain and then achieve necessary jaw movement. Our dentist may also recommend other ways to treat the problem which include nutritional counseling, behavioral changes, and stress management.
We have the advanced equipment and a qualified team to treat TMJ problems. We use three different advanced technologies for diagnosis of TMJ which are electromyography, sonography and correct tomography. Our staff members are either certified as TMJ Assistant or Advanced TMJ Assistant with a combined experience of 48 years.
